We thought it’d be fun to take a look at how popular (or not) key marijuana/cannabis industry web sites are.
The only ones we could find with any traction in the news space were Cannabis Business Times and Marijuana Business Daily. Performance-wise, it’s not even a contest with Marijuana Business Daily enjoying exactly 15 times more traffic vs. Cannabis Business Times, per our friends at SimilarWeb.com (see first screenshot above).
For the top-of-the-bill fight, crowd favorites Weedmaps and Leafly face off and the contest is much closer than expected with Leafly edging Weedmaps with 2m estimated visits vs. 1.4m while the two sites were essentially tied 6 months ago (see second screenshot). But Weedmaps engagement metrics are slightly better with longer time spent on the site and a lower bounce rate. Whereas the news race is a one-horse one, the directory race is a two-horse one as the next closest competitor to Weedmaps and Leafly is THCfinder which registers a measly 3% of Weedmaps’ traffic (3rd screenshot).
